Philipsburg – St. Maarten Laboratory Services participated in the FRED Expo show in the Netherlands on June 2 seeking qualified personnel to fill in future vacancies and represented St. Maarten.
The FRED Expo is a recruitment event to attract Dutch national students studying in the Netherlands who want to return to the islands to work and for companies to promote their services.
Human Resource Officer, Carina Garcia stated, “The FredExpo show was for an entire day of June 2 where students and interested professionals visited each company’s booth for information. While June 1, was to set-up the booths and June 3 was to conduct interviews with potential candidates.”
“Our booth was supplied with informative brochures and folders and presentation on television, business cards for our contact, and promotional pens and stress balls,” added Ms. Garcia.
After Hurricane Irma, the housing market on St. Maarten is very limited with a few apartments still reconstructing and some businesses are financially unstable. Ms. Garcia agrees, “People wanted to come back to the islands but don’t know how to look for a job. Somehow, there is a gap between the job seekers and employers. FRED Expo is a good solution and opportunity for both.”
“Many students that attended were surprised to hear that St. Maarten still has a laboratory and it peaked their interest to apply. However, in the end, we’ve received four applications,” ended Ms. Garcia.
